I'm seeing things

Do you remember looking at the clouds and shamelessly say what you saw in them? A poodle, a scary bear, a truck, Lady Gaga or even Elvis…

Maybe you are still connected to that inner child and you still play that game once in a while. (GOOD for you in that case!)

Well, turns out this has a very adult definition (you may need to read it twice): PAREIDOLIA, P A R E I D O L I A.
Pareidolia is the tendency for perception to impose a meaningful interpretation on a nebulous stimulus, usually visual, so that one sees an object, pattern, or meaning where there is none.

A common example is perceiving an image of an animal, a face or objects in cloud formations, rock formations and even hidden messages in recorded music played in reverse or at another speed.

The work I’m creating under this definition (still not sure about it, I like “seeing things” as well…) explores this phenomenon. It depends wether you see the work first or you read the title first. The form appears to be an abstract form or ou already have had a case of Pareidolia and made up your own idea of what it is supposed to be. However, when you read the title of the work, I am injecting my case of pareidolia in your brain. Can you unsee it? Maybe you can and you still keep seeing what you thought it was, in that case it’s an entertaining discussion to have. Different than those dreadful “artsy” conversations a lot of people apprehend.

My first and last love will always be colour. So it‘s evident that the choice of colour is a bold and energetic one. The rhythm created by the thousands brushstrokes almost makes it look like the piece is in constant motion or vibration.

The frames are sculpted in plaster or wood and handmade for every artwork. It’s sole purpose it’s not decorative but to support and strengthen the rhythm of the work.
