“The disco dancers are up in the trees again”, is an abstract celebration of spring, colour, and happiness. Without fear of colour and in her bold, recognizable style, Nina is determined to make her audience and collectors feel better and happier when looking at her work. Her art is not just a visual experience, but an emotional one as well.

The title of the show, “The disco dancers are up in the trees again”, is a metaphor for spring. It indicates the time of year when the trees start to blossom and the tiny flowers dance in between the branches. Life starts again… Green pops up here and there, the first rays of sunshine warm up your cheeks, and nature’s soundtrack gently waking you out of your winter snooze. This symbolic and emotional representation of spring is reflected in the artworks. Her paintings are a happy pill on the wall, evoking the smell of cherry blossoms and a fresh morning dew grass smoothie.

Nina Minnebo’s practice is defined by her fascination for colour and texture. She has an irresistible lust for generating colour that doesn’t exist, a colour that is somewhere in between. The bold strokes and even bolder contrast between colours, textures, transparencies, and materials are the way she tries to exteriorize the images in her mind, with attention to detail in both the work on canvas and the framing of the work.

In “The disco dancers are up in the trees again”, Nina mixes acrylics with oilsticks, soft pastel, and pencil. This technique is a reflection of her artistic curiosity, with each new painting showcasing a never-ending desire for growth and evolution.
